free copy of credit report

We all know the ads for "credit reports" in our e-mail and on various websites.

But most of the free credit report offers real?

Unfortunately, most are not really free. In fact, most require a monthly "credit monitoring" or any other fee - one that most people really do not need.

Under the Fair and Accurate Credit Transactions Act (FACT Act) consumers can receive a free credit report once every 12 months from each of the three nationwide consumer credit reporting companies - Experian, Equifax, and TRANS UNION.

Order your copy, visit www.AnnualCreditReport.com and your credit report online. Or if you prefer, you can send your request by phone or e-mail.

Other websites that claim to offer "credit reports", "credit scores" or "credit monitoring" are not part of the statutory free annual credit report program.

So do not get covered by these other offers.

What should you do if you receive an incorrect or harmful information on your credit report?

The Act provides for the credit reporting agencies to verify your dispute within 30 days, and notify you in writing - if the information can not be verified as accurate, they must be removed.

One possibility, your own credit in the course of the year is a credit report at a time, a few months to wait to the next. While not all creditors report to each of the 3 major credit bureaus, you will be a good idea of any changes in your credit.

How is your credit score?

Unfortunately, your credit score is not considered part of your credit report and must be purchased separately. In most cases you do not need to order your credit score often, but it is a good idea to know before you make your score for all major credit purchases.
